Why Feed A Raw Diet?
Why Feed A Raw Diet?
Diet is the foundation of health. Stewart® Raw diets contain higher levels of nutrients including essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants which are available to your dog as building blocks to increased health and wellness. Our raw food diet is nutritionally dense and without fillers which allows the body to absorb and utilize more of these nutrients. Higher body absorption means less elimination through stool.
Benefits of a Stewart® Raw Naturals™ diet are evident – Because our diet is grain and gluten free and is also single or limited source protein, it is perfect for rotation diets and may be the right choice for dogs with food sensitivities. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are naturally occurring compounds found within a raw diet and support joint function and mobility.
Stewart® diets provide high levels of beneficial enzymes and amino acids which may help reduce plaque and tartar resulting in cleaner teeth and fresher breath. Antioxidant and vitamin rich berries and vegetables support immune and cardiovascular systems. The balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids from salmon oil and flaxseed helps promote healthy skin and coat which can reduce shedding.
Quality, Safety and Peace of Mind
We go to great lengths to ensure quality and safety. Stewart® Raw Naturals™ diet is cold process pasteurized in a human grade USDA inspected facility using high pressure processing (HPP). HPP uses cold water under very high pressure to destroy micro-organisms that cause spoilage while maintaining the nutritional value of food in its purest form.
True digestibility is defined as the proportion of food nutrients that are absorbed from the digestive tract into the bloodstream. It is measured as the difference between intake and fecal output, with allowance being made for that part of the feces that is not derived from undigested food residues (shed cells of the intestinal tract, bacteria, residues of digestive juices).
Animals fed cheap food made with low-quality grains and grain by-products as fillers, may have a true digestibility of only about 70 – 85%. The result is a need to feed a greater quantity of food to maintain daily nutrient requirements and an increase in elimination.
Nutritionally dense food without fillers, such as Stewart® Fresh To Home Raw Frozen Recipes allow the body to absorb more nutrients, increasing true digestibility.
The digestibility of food is important to consider when discussing the cost of feeding. You pay for the amount of food in the bag or can that you purchase, not the amount your pet digests and absorbs. Choosing a food simply because it appears inexpensive does not make it a good buy. Lower quality food may need to be increased in order to provide the same nutrition as a smaller quantity of higher quality food, thereby increasing, or sometimes even doubling its cost.
