5 Pet-Centric Tips for National Photograph Month

May is National Photograph Month, another social media holiday just BEGGING for pets to be included. (Seriously! Dog pics rake in the most likes on our personal pages; still deciding if that’s hurtful or not, but clearly the people love ’em!) Photography is an amazing way to capture moments or convey art and we hope everyone takes the opportunity to snap a few photos of whatever sparks joy – which likely includes your pet. To help you celebrate the occasion, we’re giving you 5 top tips for capturing that perfect picture (pets included!)

  • Check the background. Most people underestimate the background of a picture; make sure there’s nothing behind you that’s unsightly or embarrassing!
  • Lighting makes a difference. Try to get the lighting right to ensure there aren’t any weird shadows or unflattering tones once the moment’s captured.
  • Watch those angles. Where you hold the lens is key so make sure you’re holding it at angle that flatters you both!
  • Be prepared. And by that we mean, be prepared to bribe them with Pro-Treats. Our favorite tactic is to hold the treat right where we want them to look.
  • Be candid. Show your pet’s personality! If you have a lazy cat, snap a pic of them sleeping next to you or in the background of your selfie; if your dog’s a chow hound, get a picture right before you put their bowl of Raw Naturals down. Let your personalities, and your relationship, shine.

We challenge you to snap at least one photo a week of your pet this month and tag us on Instagram @StewartPet or using the hashtag #StewartPetPhotoMonth
