We’re Talkin’ Watermelon

Organic Ripe Seedless Watermelon

Nothing says summer like the taste of sweet juicy watermelon. We love it because it’s a cooling, guilt-free, sweet treat – and guess what? Your dog can enjoy it for the exact same reasons.

High in potassium and vitamins A, B6, and C, watermelon is a low calorie snack that is comprised of mostly water which also aides in hydration. Watermelon is also high in fiber, which allows some leeway in regard to its high sugar content, and contains something called lycopene – an antioxidant that may help to prevent cancer in dogs. When treating watermelon, it’s important to avoid letting them eat the rind or an abundance of seeds to avoid any sort of blockages, though a few seeds is no cause for concern. Additionally, because of its high fiber content, you’ll want to feed it to your dog in moderation – mostly consider it a sweet summertime treat.

Our favorite way to treat our dog with watermelon is to freeze small bite-size chunks and give it to them after a walk or when we’re lounging outside. You can also freeze the juice into ice cubes and feed directly or put it in their water to prompt drinking. Regardless of how you serve it, we guarantee they’ll love it and you can rest assured it’s safe.
